1991 Toyota Paseo Test Drive

Coupes, used to be the preferred choice to most car lines, as it relayed a fun like, sporty persona. Not only did Toyota remove two doors from the Tercel, but they gave the Paseo an entirely different look to try to eliminate as many economy car roots as possible. According to the host, the result was a look that ‘means business’. That may be, but in reality it still was a cheap alternative to the Corolla SR5/GTS in which it finally replaced. Achieving a 28/34 EPA Mpg rating, was impressive from this sporty ‘Oriental’, but essentially was the trade off for its actual performance figures, which traces back to its subcompact origin, and not the sporty looks it pretended to posses!

I test drove one of these once, was so slow and noisy, I couldn’t handle it. Too bad cause it was cute and cheap. Just too dang buzzy and slow.
