21984 Ford Tempo Manufacturer Promo
True, Ford’s new front drive X- and K- fighter wasnt’ exactly a GT car, it was also true that FoMoCo’s Fairmont/Zephyr replacement hit the top of the US sales charts during its introduction. With its econo tuned 2.3 liter pushrod four, the Tempo wasn’t the sort of piece that set hearts beating to the edge of fibrillation, but then again it wasn’t judged against cars that did.
The Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz were not the “brightest” cars around, as quality issues came up. For 1995, Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique replaced them. Those continued until model year 2000. Then, they basically “vanished into thin air”.
Actually the previous and current editions of the Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan replaced the Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique several years later. Prior to the Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz, the other predecessors were the Ford Fairmont/Mercury Zephyr, Ford Maverick/Mercury Comet and the immortal Ford Falcon.
