The Merkur XR4Ti began life in Europe two years prior, as the Sierra. Equipped with a much revised edition of Ford’s 2.3 liter EFI turbo, the Merkur gave Ford’s Lincoln Mercury division two important things: A snappy little sports coupe that certainly brightened up the L-M showrooms, and a prospect of cars that came on stream shortly after. And by stream, I mean, another drop.
