If you ordered the new QA1 option, you received a sneak preview-sort of-of the 1989 King of the Hill Corvette. At least you got a sample of the King’s new rubber; Goodyear Eagle 275/40ZR-17 radials on 17×9.5 wheels, which came with either the Z52 or high performance Z51 suspension packages. As in 1987, standard power was the 5.7 liter tuned port injected V8, with output hiked slightly to 245 hp and 345 lb-ft mated to either a 4-speed automatic, or the Doug Nash 4+3 manual. Chevy quoted an eye blinking 0-60-mph time of 5.3 seconds with the Nash unit. The front suspension was altered to incorporate a zero-scrub radius design, with revised upper and lower control arms, springs and shocks, anti roll bar, steering knuckles and wheel bearings. The 5-link rear suspension was modified as well, with shocks, trailing link bushings and lateral arm assemblies relocated to reduce rear wheel camber for better handling and stability. Braking was also improved, thanks to new twin piston front calipers and larger diameter rotors all around.
