1988 Mercury Tracer Test Drive
This front wheel drive sub-compact was launched in Canada in July 1986 in 3 and 5 door sedan versions and in 1987 in the United States with the addition of the wagon. It is directly derived from the Mazda 323 from which it differs in only a few details. In its replacement role for the new defunct Lynx and its competition with Chevy’s Nova and Dodge Colt, the Tracer is a talented candidate, with a number of advantages on its side. With only a few improvements in its conception, it would have been an outright winner.
