01989 Buick Skyhawk Manufacturers Promo
General Motors announced in May of 1989 it would discontinue the Buick Skyhawk J-car and increase its production of its GM20 Skylarks. The cancellation left the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunbird as the sole remaining models in a line of compacts GM thought would push back a tide of Japanese success stories.
According to General Motors figures through the end of March, Skyhawk sales in 1989 were down 43.1% over 1988.
