02000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT Test Drive
Since the discontinuation of the 3000GT in 1999, Mitsubishi was counting on the Eclipse to satisfy coupe and convertible demand. Taking styling cues from the 3000GT and the SST concept vehicle, the all-new 2000 Eclipse had an edgier styling feel and was larger than the familiar pocket-rocket it replaced. Base level RS and GS models had a new 2.4-liter/154-horsepower SOHC inline-four. The spotier GT was upgraded to a 3.0-liter/205-horsepower SOHC V-6. Sorry speed freaks, no turbos or all-wheel-drive for 2000. A five-speed manual transmission was standard across the board, with a semi-automatic Sportronic auto-shifter offered as an option.
