01983 Mercury Cougar Commercial
Mercury’s 1983 Cougar was much like that year’s smoothly redesigned 1983 “aero” T-Bird, but lacked the Ford’s Turbo-Four. Neither was there a Cougar XR-7, just base and uplevel LS coupes. Still, sales were almost 500 percent up on 1982, jumping to nearly 76,000 units. The rear roofline was the biggest visual difference between the 1983 Cougar and Thunderbird. The cat wore an upright backlight for the more formal look thought to be favored by Mercury buyers.
