01992 Oldsmobile EIghty Eight Test Drive
General Motors full-size front-drive daily trio were redesigned for 1992. The Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, Buick LeSabre, and Pontiac Bonneville retained the basic platform introduced with the 1986-1991 generation, but each wore its own styling. Previously, most body panels were shared. All were offered only as 4-door sedans.
Though quite a departure from the previous boxy design, the 1992 Eighty Eight was still easily recognizable as an Olds. Front and rear styling were very similar to the larger Ninety Eight, but rounded lines distinguished it from that square-cut luxury sedan. The only powertrain offered was a 170-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6 with an electronically controlled 4-speed automatic.
