01987 Toyota Tercel Test Drive
The Tercel was now in its third incarnation. It offered a subtle, new sheetmetal design; a 12-valve cylinder head, more power and torque; revised suspension with gas pressure shock absorbers; more room inside and even better fuel economy than the previous Tercel. Most of the Tercel’s appeal was on the inside, however. An expanded cockpit was highlighted by a flatter dashboard and a host of standard comfort and convenience items.
Toyota determined that most Tercels were bought by women in their late twenties who netted at least $28,000 a year. Modest entry fee, low maintenance and reliability were the most important factors in their decision.
