02000 Porsche Boxster S Test Drive
For those of you who griped that the Boxster was under-energized, Porsche heard your cries and responded by creating the all-new for 2000 Boxster-S. The invisible centerpiece of this topless terror was a 911-descended 3.2-liter/252-horsepower flat-six coupled with a six-speed manual transmission or five-speed Chick-tronic (er: tiptronic) shifter. Expect 0-60-mph acceleration to take under 5 seconds with the stick. More visible was the Boxster-S specific trim, twin center tailpipes, and unmistakable red brake calipers. Meanwhile, the regular Boxster was still available with its fun (but not frighteningly fast) 2.5-liter/201-horsepower flat-six.
