01983: Buick in the 1990’s looked Rad
Buick’s 1983 electronic concept car, the Questor, may look innocent but it contained enough Buck Rogers innovations to qualify for a space program medal. Consider: an infrared key entry system: automatic level, attitude and spoiler control systems: a sentinel to monitor vehicle systems: a head up line of sight display for speedometer and gauges: map and navigation system: automatically aimed headlamps: voice-activated radiotelephone: road surface traction monitoring system: television rearview mirror: and a touch command center for entertainment, comfort and convenience functions. Controlling all these features of the future were 14 micro-computers. the test-bed car was developed by Buick and GM’s Delco Electronics Division, with support from GM Design Staff personnel.
