Joining the popular sport-utility market would be the BMW E53 (that was the codename for the X5), which was based on the 5-series chassis and used the 525ix center differential for its all-wheel-drive system. BMW’s acquisition of Rover paid off, as the hydropneumatic springs developed through Range Rover. Engine choices were the expected inline-6 and V8. The SUV would be constructed in the U.S with lots of help from Land Rover experts.
