1986 Mercedes Benz 560SL Test Drive
The 560 SEL sedan, 560 SEC coupe and 560 SL 2-+seater were essentially unchanged from 1985, except that the V8 had been punched out to 5.6 liters. This was the largest, most powerful engine Mercedes Benz had offered since the 6.9 of the previous decade. It was a clear indication of how times had changed from the fuel pinching year of the late 1970’s.
However, Mercedes Benz would replace the aged 560SL with a new 2-seater based on mechanicals from the more modern sedans, a few years after.
