2005 Ford Freestyle Test Drive
Ford fired a salvo at the midsize crossover SUV market with the Freestyle. Volvo-based architecture with four-wheel independent suspension provided sporty ride and handling. A 203-horsepower, 3.0-liter Duratec V-6 mated with a continuously variable transmission and front- or full-time AWD. The flexible interior design provided multiple configurations for carrying cargo or up to seven passengers. Safety features included energy-channeling body structures, Ford’s Personal Safety System, and optional Safety Canopy rollover-protection system. The Freestyle was offered in SE, SEL, and limited trims.
