The mid-level price series for passenger vans was dropped, while Chevy’s 7.4-liter (454-cubic inches) V-8 was scheduled to be a new option for GM’s full-size vans.
Chevrolet and GMC truck dealers sold identical models under different names: Chevy called its passenger models Sportvan and cargo models Chevy Van.  GMC dealers called passenger versions Rally and cargo models Vandura.  Base prices were slightly higher on GMC models, while options were priced identically.

Other changes for 1989 were that cargo models gained power steering and a gauge package as standard equipment, and all models had dual outside mirrors standard.
