1985 Saab 900 Turbo Test Drive

The Saab Turbo received two major engine upgrades for 1985, an intercooler and a new 4-valve DOHC head, which allowed the 2.0L four to make 160 hp.  The Turbo also got new alloy wheels, cruise control and a front spoiler with integral air inlet to accommodate the needs of the front mounted oil cooler used with all 4-valve engines.  In early 1985, Saab introduced a normally aspirated version of the 4-valve engine in a model known as the 16S. Available only as a 2-dr notch sedan, the 16S used the same 4-valve DOHC head as the Turbo, but without the turbocharger and intercooler.
