The essence of classic sports cars is distilled in the Mazda Miata which reigned as the best-selling sports car in the world. As such, the two-seater was little changed for 2004. Its eager 16-valve four was mated to either a five- or six-speed manual transmission or, if you must, a four-speed automatic. The fabric top was pulled up by hand, but it’s light and watertight like no Brit sports car ever was. Even the base Miata was famous for nimble handling, though it’s even better with optional suspension bits. The LS added leather and such, and all Miata’s got new-design 16-inch alloys for ’04.
