1990 Ford Explorer Preview
The Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicle was introduced nationwide by Ford Motor Company in April of 1990. It became the top selling vehicle in the class in its first year.
The Two door Ford Explorer was planned in conjunction with Mazda.. Mazda’s engineers maintained only a consulting role in the process, resulting in the first American made vehicle to be sold under the guise of being a Japanese product. The Mazda version of the two door Explorer was old under the Navajo moniker.
