1969 Studebaker Avanti Test Drive

Studebaker was long gone by 1969, but its sporting Avanti lived on.  South Bend dealers Leo Newman and Nate Altman acquired manufacturing rights in 1965 and began building the “Avanti II” as a limited edition luxury GT with Corvette running gear and detail styling changes. Base price was $7145 in 1969, when 103 cars were produced.  Production would continue through the 1980s.

  1. JEFF ROBERTSON says:

I LIKE AVANTI FROM THE 70S,80S AND EARLY 90S WITH CHEVROLET 5.0L V8 HIGHOUTPUT

  2. I really prefer the early Avanti, up until the ’80s. Those were completely personalized vehicles: any color combination, any kind of leather or fabrics, any woods… nothing was off-limits. And the fact that the Avanti stayed selling at a slow but steady rate by word-of-mouth only is a lesson that should be studied in business schools everywhere.
