1973 Buick Regal Gran Sport Stage 1 Test Drive

The Century nameplate returned for 1973 after an almost 20 year hiatus from Buick’s lineup. Built on the same A-Body as the Pontiac Grand Prix, Olds Cutlass Supreme and others, it replaced the Skylark as its mid size offering. By the time 1973 rolled around, the true muscle car was living it’s last days in hospice, but Buick still believed in the genre, and the proof is in this Gran Sport Stage 1 model. Powered by what Bud Lindeman refereed to as a ‘455 cubic inch High performance mill’, even though breathing was hindered by a gang of emission control devices, power was good as seen when playing the ‘Bury the foot game’! Lindeman captures the moment perfectly when he describes the big Buick being “as close to a super car we’ve had since breathing clean air became popular.” Wow, if he could only see how the industry has evolved today!

I always wondered how a “reverse spin” was any kind of realistic test procedure. I mean, other that James Rockford from the TV show Rockford Files, who does this?? Haha
