1993 Ferrari 348 Spider and Speciale Test Drive
The 348 was the most sold Ferrari. The Maranello plant produced ten each day compared to seven 512TR’s, two Mondials and two 456 GT’s a day. It was offered in the two seater two door model tb “t” stands for transverse transmission and “b” for berlinetta, and the spider ts model with a removable hard top and bucket seats. The power train common to these models is the 3.4L V8 engine with a manual 5-speed transmission. Although the sales fell by 25%, the348 remained the battle horse of the Italian car builder. Its success was explained by the fact that it was the most pragmatic and affordable Ferrari model, but its value declined like any ordinary car.

This was one of my favorite sports cars back in the day. I’d love to have the opportunity to drive one and experience the classic gated shifter that, sadly, has all but disappeared from modern Ferraris.
I love modern Ferrari’s styling direction, but am on the fence with the use of dual cluth transimissions, despite knowing their performance benefits. I will always prefer three pedals!
I agree, dual-clutch may be where it’s at in terms of performance, but nothing says driver involvement like a slick-shifting manual. I hope my next car is a manual, like my first two.
