31993 GEO Prizm Preview Test Drive
Since its introduction in 1990, the Geo Prizm was popular among those consumers looking for an affordable, modern compact car. The Prizm’s redesign in 1993 improved its status, helping it earn numerous product awards. Perhaps even more important to a prospective buyer, the Prizm was at the top of its price category in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study, and scored in the top 10 of all models in initial quality, as measured by that same study.
Probably the best model of the Prizm was the GSi of 1990-1992. A twin to the Corolla GT-S coupe, the GSi was more practical (a four-door sedan or a five-door hatch), and had the same 1.6L twin cam engine as the GT-S, which was also used in the first-generation MR2. It was a viable competitor to say, the Civic Si, Sentra SE-R, and even the VW GTI.
Agreed, I am in love with the first gen GSi hatch! I have a review of the hatch (non GSi)! But also I love this gen in top guise also! Often seeking them both out on cragislist. I randomly saw a Nova Twin Cam (in ratty condition mind you) in rush hour traffic one day, and despite it’s patina, was still in awe!!
I havent seen a GSi Prizm running around in a long time there used to be a red one I saw once and awhile but it must have died or been sold because its MIA
