51988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International Series 5spd Test Drive
When GM cancelled its rear drive intermediates, in favor of the GM-10 FWD, the despise for this move seemed to follow the company far into the next couple decades, particularly when its platform mate Regal is mentioned due to its epic 80s muscle car GNX farewell. Not sure why this particular family gets the hate, when the entire industry was moving in this direction, or had already done so! The Cutlass, distinctly in International Series guise was quite unique, if not a looker! With features noted in the review, like it’s wind cheating design, twin rear bucket seats, and electric head restraints! What was not unique, was the use of the ubiquitous 2.8L v-6, that seemed barely adequate for its smaller stable mates. “…at the rate GM is deploying the Quad 4, it will be obsolete before it is fully available”, Not sure if that engine eventually was a better choice, based on it’s inherent rough and vibration prevalent nature, especially if this was to be considered a ‘Mature Luxury’ car. But when they compare it to the Prelude Si…..?
