1988 Mazda MX-6 GT Test Drive
Whats an enthusiast to do? Back when virtually every manufacturer produced some sort of sporty spoilerized two door coupe, back when the less doors, meant more cool! Mazda’s attempt, the MX-6 GT, is essentially identical (under the skin) to Fords Probe Turbo. Basically the two door version of the less than popular 626, and 626 5-door, they competed in the same class as the Honda Accord, Nissan Stanza and Camry. Unique features to the MX-6 included adjustable suspension, oscillating ventilation and a turbo charged four cylinder. Sales of the coupe totaled 10,445 in 1987, the first year of production. From the wagon-esque five door, to the sportiest version, the 626 family was quite appealing. It performed well, it was pleasant to drive and was attractively styled. Very charming….
