71987 Lincoln Continental Manufacturer Promo
The 1982–1987 Continental was a ‘spiritual successor’ to the Lincoln Versailles compact of the 1970s. Like the earlier Versailles (which shared most of its sheet-metal, drivetrain, and chassis with the Ford Granada and Mercury Monarch), the new Continental — serving as a premium model for Lincoln — was based on a lower-rung Ford model using the Fox platform. Originally introduced for the 1978 Ford Fairmont and Mercury Zephyr, the 105.5 in wheelbase was stretched 3 in for the Continental.
Great video! I had one of these a long time ago. It was a 1984 Valentino model. nice car, no rust, great interior, but the air suspension was a problem. First the rear end would sink but would come back up when it was running. The axle would rub on the airbags. But after a while it wouldn’t stay up anymore. Then the front sank even when running. It might have been the same bag issue or a leaking air line. It was a common problem and too expensive to fix. I could have converted it to regular suspension but it had too many other problems like the odometer reading “error”,wiper motor, no A/C, ect. I got rid of it after that.
Good video! Keep the good stuff coming. It is always a nice surprise to see certain things. It is interesting the car this car became in 1988.
I LIKE 1982-87 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL WITH TIRE TRUNK COOL LOOK STYLE “LINCOLN WHAT A LUXURY CAR SHOULD BE”
Attractive style initially but became a bit antiquated in the market by the end and resulted in tanking sales.
1988+ Continental was much needed and sales rebounded significantly.
I enjoyed watching the video, thanks.

I had an ’86 Continental Givenchy! I loved that car. I felt like royalty when driving it. Mine also had the Ford/JBL audio system and it was excellent. I would love to own another one.
