61984 Chevrolet Camaro vs Dodge Daytona Training Promo
Chevrolet’s 1984 Camaro Z28 gained a more potent four barrel 305 V8 with 150 horsepower, a reply to Ford’s Mustang GT. Total Camaro sales boomed to more than 261,000 units, of which 100,416 were Z28s. But there was a new kid on the block for the pony car set to compete with. Dodge’s new ubiquitously K-car, based Daytona, a sporty front drive GT car that also proved popular, particularly with its turbo powerplant! Lets see how they compare in the eyes of Chevrolet.
AWESOME CLASSIC ROCK AND ALBUM ORIENTED ROCK MODERN MUSCLE CAR CHEVROLET CAMARO Z28 BEAT DODGE DAYTONA TURBO 😀
Chevy didn’t seem too worried about competing with Dodge.
if you notice in a lot of the 80s Chrysler Ads I post on the facebook page, Chrysler touted its Daytona/laser against GM’s f-bodys regularly. Perhaps this was GM’s way of combating that!
After watching that video it was clear that Chevrolet was worried about the little 4-cylinder Turbo. When they took off in the race they were neck-and-neck for 1/8 mile, but we only got to see the last 60 feet… by that time you’re trying to tell me the Camaro gained 6 car lengths? Lol.. that Camaro always was and always will be a turd, but if GM wants to pound their chest and brag that their car with an engine more than twice the size can beat a competitor, let them….after all they did make the video.. 💩
I’m a fan of both cars as this was a point in time where any performance cars were a big breath of fresh air coming out of the way too long malaise smog era. It would have been nice if they compared the weight of each vehicle and also list the EPA mpg for each. It’s kind of a David vs Goliath comparison with a healthy v8 vs an engine half it’s size.
