1Selling the 1981 Pontiac Firebird
Using the ‘Pontiac Know How’ program, to sell a Pontiac Firebird, lets pretend you’re in the market for a brand new 1981 Firebird Esprit, Formula, or Trans Am. Words used to describe the Firebirds appeal, spoken by the stereotypical, lets just say ‘domestic sporty rear drive pony car type coupe….’ driver, include terms as responsive, and powerful, nevermind that they haven’t the slightest idea how to really handle their rides beyond flooring it and going straight. Stylish, sporty, showy, again similar to their own shirts open and gold chains resting on a nest of chest hair, they flaunt what they think they’ve got and cruise for chicks. And they do get noticed. Women everywhere point and smile at them. If the guys weren’t cranking Boston’s Greatest Hits so loudly, they’d realize the ladies were actually laughing. However on the reverse side, according to Pontiac, some of their prospects are into fuel mileage, compact size, and maneuverability. Comparing it to imports like the VW Scirocco, RX7, and Datsun 280ZX, along with lesser cars including Rabbit and 210, to help allure the opposite gender. As you can see the Firebird buyer for 81′ primary charm was its strong image appeal, be it for looks, economy, or size. One thing is for sure, if a million sporty cars were sold in this model year, Pontiac’s wide varying range of models should have won over a large percentage of them with the Firebird.
