In a move undoubtedly calculated to created some good news and present a more solid picture of the company’s future, Chrysler Corporation executives showed a mock-up of a Chrysler luxury car, known as LaScala, at a Detroit showing of its 1980 models.
The model shown was another collection of borrowed styling ideas, sporting a Riviera like front end with a strong vertical grille and laid back headlamp escutcheons, a roofline reminiscent of Ford’s LTD/Marquis coupes, and a trunk very similar to that of the 1980 Seville. The car would be built on a 112.7 inch wheelbase chassis, the same one used on the Cordoba/Mirada personal luxury cars from Chrysler. We know this now as, Imperial.
