Prior to its debut Audi was hard at work on a turbocharged version of its 20-valve five-cylinder engine.  That 20-valve engine was available in the Quattro Coupe and 90 Quattro in normally aspirated form.  Without turbocharging it put out 162 horsepower, just two more than the turbocharged 10-vale engine.  With 20 valves and turbocharging, this engine produced 217 horsepower.  Too much power for front-drive 200’s, this new engine was only available as a Quattro.  But Ford was able to do it with the Taurus SHO.

Prior to the introduction of the Audi V8, the 200 was the flagship of the line and was still a sophisticated luxury sedan.  The exterior was distinctive, with aluminum alloy wheels with web-style spokes, and a sleek, aerodynamic appearance.  Anti-lock brakes were standard on all models except the 100E, where they remained optional.1991-Audi-200-20v-quattro2

The interior had the luxury objects one expected in an Audi: power windows and locks, reclining bucket seats, leather trim, a Bose sound system and a compact disc player.

One feature that made Audi a good buy for many was the warranty, called the Audi Advantage.  Audi now offered what was the best warranty courage in the business.  For three years, the only item the owners paid for was fuel.  Even oil and windshield washer fluid were covered b this program.
