1982 Ford Escort 5-door Test Drive
With the emphasis in 1982 on finishing what was started the previous year, Ford added a 5-door hatchback version of the Escort. All Escorts benefited from running change improvements like larger wheels and tires, low restriction exhaust system, wide open throttle AC cutout switch, longer front seat travel, and revised cargo area trim. Gearing was also improved for increased performance. Dash layouts , consoles, wheel dress, and glove boxes were also improved, and there was a new optional 11.3 gallon fuel tank available.Shocks, springs, and steering were all re-calibrated and the ATX automatic transaxle was improved for crisper and more solid shifting.
