1983: Don’t call it a Mini-Van

GM began converting its Baltimore assembly plant in early 1983 for production of its new mid-size van that debuted in 1985.  The M-van as it was code named became the Chevy Astro, and GMC Safari, and was offered in both passenger and commercial versions.  It debuted a year after Chrysler’s T-Van and a year earlier than Ford’s Aerostar.
