1986 General Motors Model Lineup Updates
General Motors did not have a watershed year in 1986, but it was a good one, especially if you were talking new technology and refinements.
The introduction of ABS braking and intercooled turbochargers, extensive use of rack and pinion steering and independent rear suspensions, composite halogen headlamps, and low Cd aerobody styling, major improvements in climate control and onboard computerized monitoring systems brought GM current with leading edge 80’s automotive technology.
Big, lumbering and slow to react, GM’s mid-year introductions proved more important than its traditional fall launch – with numerous all-new or redesigned cars unveiled in the spring.
