1990 Toyota 4Runner Test Drive
Not unlike the S-10 Blazer, Bronco II, which the 4Runner was created to compete against, the Toyota was based on it’s pickup truck counterpart. But in this, it’s second iteration only subtle design cues were shared with it’s pickup kin. Sport Utility vehicles have always had a split personality. They must be rugged to handle off road hazards, but also comfortable enough for around town driving. This generation shows the nature of the compromises that are necessary to exist in both worlds.

The original 4Runner was mainly intended for off-road capability, rather than speed. When the SUV was redone in 1996, it picked up some much needed power as well. As of 2014, the 4Runner still has the rugged body-on-frame structure, one of the last in its class.
very great car! My favorite 4runner is the 2003-6 gen.
I wonder why did the 2-door version got discontinued?
