1991 Ford T-Bird & Mercury Cougar Preview Test Drive
1989 saw the introduction to an all new Tbird and cougar. However without an available small block V8, even as an option, it left some buyers scorned. Two years later FoMoCo saw the light and introduced a slightly detuned version of the Mustangs 5.0 (actual displacement 4.9). Mercury replaced the supercharged v6 with the V8 as its top engine, while ford kept the blown six as its top bird, allowing buyers to have the eight in the softer LX. Personally, i always preferred the Cougars lines, particularly in XR7 trim over the Thunderbird, as I felt it cleaner and much more unique looking. As you can see by the vid, this was not their normal testing tactility, and looks like it was performed at Fords Proving grounds, in the Detroit area.
