The sports utility market slowed down somewhat in 1995, but sales were still good. Over the years, both GM and Suzuki had been very successful with their diminutive 4×4 models. To adapt their vehicles to market changes, an even wider range of products were available in 1996. For several years, Suzuki had exclusive marketing rights to the four door version of these four door version of these SUV’s, developed and manufactured jointly with GM. While the two door Sidekick/Tracker model carved out a good share of the market among young enthusiasts and real lovers of 4×4’s, many potential buyers didn’t like the lack of room associated with a two door or the fairly stiff suspension that comes with a short wheelbase. Suzuki found the solution by designing a four door version that not only was roomy, but featured a stronger engine, at least when i was launched. And since this four door version had appealing lines, its popularity increased as the years went on!
