Out with the Olds, in with the new. Since the introduction of the Aurora in 1994, it led the way in reinventing the Oldsmobile image. For 2001, the Aurora itself was reinvented with a sleek new look and the hardware under the hood to make it a real competitor. The redesigned 2001 Aurora, was six inches shorter and weighed 165 lbs less than the previous car. The new Aurora also adopted the Inrigue’s 3.5 liter V6 as its standard engine, while the previous model’s 4.0 liter V8 was carried over as an option. The Aurora’s new look was not as sensuous or elegant as the original.
