01975 Vauxhall Chevette Test Drive
From the mid-1970s, hatchbacks arrived thick and fast. General Motors offered one in their T-car, launched in Brazil in 1974 as the Chevette, and followed by versions made in Britain (Vauxhall Chevette), Germany (Opel Kadett) and the US (Chevrolet Chevette) . This was not a typical supermini, as it had a longitudinal engine driving the rear wheels, a layout also favored by Volvo with their 343, Mazda and Toyota with their 323 and Starlet.
