Restyling of AMC’s compact Hornet yielded a new Concord, but the difference wasn’t as great as the change of name would imply. Concord came in 4-door body styles, including a DL two door sedan. A 232 cubic inch 6 with standard, with a bigger 6 or 304 cubic inch V8 optional.
The D/L 4 door was one of 115,513 sold, up 33% from 1977 Hornet sale.
Those Concords were very nice cars for the times. 1978 saw an increase car prices and none of these cars were inexpensive, but the Concord offered good value for the money. If you could live with the lack of fuel economy out of the 258 six, it was a dependable motor with good drivability. My boss had one back in the day, and I was impressed at how nice the car was, it was much better equipped than some other foreign and domestic prestige makes. But it wasn’t enough…
