01978 AMC Gremlin Manufacturer Promo
America’s first subcompact, the Gremlin, continued with a few minor trim changes as well as an air conditioning option on the 2-liter models for the first time. Since its introduction in the spring of 1970, AMC’s truncated Hornet/Concord became the corporation’s most successful car, with more than 400k sold. The 1978 Gremlin was offered as a standard 6-cylinder, a customer six or a custom 4-cylinder model. the last version used the 2-liter Audi derived overhead camshaft unit first offered in the Gremlin for 1977. Base transmission on the 4-cylinder car was a 4-speed manual, offered as an option on the 6-cylinder Gremlins n place of the standard 3-speed unit used with the latter’s larger, more torque engine. A 3-range automatic transmission was also offered, as is a 258cid six at extra charge. The 1978 Gremlin also used the same new instrument panel as the Concord and AMX.
