Introduced in 1969, the Capri made in Ford’s British and German factories followed the Mustang in having a variety of versions, from tame too sporty.
All Capri’s had the same 4-seater coupe bodies, Macpherson front strut suspension, rack and pinion steering, and front disc brakes. On the first series, made from 1969 to 1974, engines ran from s 61 bhp 1298 CC overhead valve four as used in the Escort, up to a 150 bhp 2994 cc V6 which gave the 3000 GT a 120 mph top speed. Mark II Capri’s (1974 to 1978) had restyled bodies with opening hatchback’s. They offered the same old overhead valve 1300 engine. The Mark III were a little changed, apart from mild re-styling with a tidier front end. The last of the original Capri’s were made in 1987.
