1979: Cadillac Seville Gucci

1979-cadillac-seville-gucciAmid the crystal and marble splendor of the Grad Ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, Los Angeles’ eloquent answer to the concept of snob appeal, the Cadillac Seville designed by Gucci made its debut.

It was a posh affair, with champagne and pretty people in all states of dress and undress, and crowned by the august presence of Dr. Aldo Gucci, lineal descendant of the founder of the world-famous house of fashion and designer of the three cars that were the center of attention.

The Gucci Seville was offered  in only three richly elegant colors: Cotillion White, Sable Black, and Post Road Brown.  A listing of what makes the car a Gucci limited edition reads as follows:
1) Each 24K gold plated piece of trim was imported from Italy

2) The hood ornament was a pair of interlocking gold G’s

3) The same gold G’s adorn the wire wheel covers, the front fenders, and the inside of the door pillars

4) Gold block letters spell out Gucci on the trunk; there was a gold Gucci nameplate on the steering wheel; and his signature, also in gold appeared on the dashboard

5) the famous Gucci stripe runs along both sides of the car and across the trunk lid

6) Gucci design cloth covers the armrests, headrests, and headliner; a vinyl landau top was don in material of he same pattern

7) A complete set of matched Gucci luggage awaited in the trunk.

The conversions were done by a Florida based company called International Automotive Design, inc. Company officials who were present at the press party stated their intent to build only 2500 of the Gucci special editions, and mentioned that the car had tremendous market in Japan.

The Cadillac Seville, sold for around $18,000 in Los Angeles, went for $2k more in Gucci trim.
