31979 Chrysler New Yorker Test Drive
Chrysler’s “new” 1979 big cars were really reskinned mid-size sedans sold as a Newport and this New Yorker, available in top Fifth Avenue Trim. Wheelbase fell from 123.9 inches to 118.5, and sales to 28,574. Even in standard form, the 1979 New Yorker started at a steep $10,872. “Formal” styling cliches were abundant. Power came from a choice of two 318 V8s, but weight dropped from 4400 pounds to 3500.
Jeeze, i new the quality of those cars was lacking, but thats just pathetic
Great Video. What’s interesting is the number of quality issues on this car. They did have issues, all little stuff, nothing major. That’s not good if you’re selling a Luxury Car. I can atest, these cars are great handling cars! The shots thru the safety cones was very cool.
So this is the quality control that nearly put Chrysler out of business back then. Thanks for posting this very interesting video. It’s short but has plenty of substance to the story of Chrysler Corporation’s downfall of the late 70’s and early 80’s.
