1980 FIat Strada Test Drive

Fiat Strada, the Italian “work of art”, was the result of four years of development by the well-known marque. Featuring front engine front-wheel drive and an unusual fully independent suspension system, the 3-door hatchback also available in a five-door model, was designed to meet the growing demand in the American market for a comfortable economy car that performed and handled well. Both front and rear suspensions systems use the Macpherson strut, but the rear had an additional transverse leaf spring that acted as an anti-sway bar. It was very effective in keeping rear wheel road contact under hard cornering conditions, and the rack and pinion steering provided the precise control to make the most of the total suspension package.
