1981 Chevrolet Citation vs Ford Fairmont Comparison Test Drive
While the Citation was designed to do exactly what the Ford Fairmont was designed to do as far as family transportation, it was a completely different animal. Of the two, it was the newest, with the highest content of the latest technology. When the Citation debuted, there was only a 15 day supply, and was the hottest selling combination 4-cylinder automatic, 4-door hatchback on the market.
The Fairmont used a conventional drivetrain layout, with the engine in front, driving the wheels in the rear, following the European intermediate and ‘Big’ car philosophy. While the front drive cars appeared to have more usable interior passenger space, the Fairmont had as much rear leg room as the Citation.
