For that segment of the car buying public that thought bigger was better, Ford introduced  new mid-size family sedans.  Thankfully, Ford had the presence of mind to make that “bigger” smaller and the downsized 1981 Granada was about 400 lbs lighter and a couple inches shorter than the model it replaced.  The folks at the Lincoln-Mercury division had forsaken the Monarch badge for the Cougar nameplate on their Granada equivalent.  The Cougar name was very recognizable and very salable and this was nothing more than badge engineering at its very worst.  Remember when Cougar evoked images of sporty enthusiast cars? Did it have the same appeal when applied  to a rather sedate sedan?1981-Mercury-Cougar-sedan3

The Granada/Cougar was another off-spring of the Fairmont/Zephyr line.  At the time of its introduction back in 1977, it represented the first of a new family of Ford cars designed with efficiency of space, fuel and materials foremost in mind.  It was lighter, smaller, cleaner stylistically and more sophisticated mechanically than anything Dearborn had built.

I saw the Mercury Cougar Sedan manufacturer promo video, that is not a 1981, it is a 1982 Mercury Cougar sedan manufacturer promo video. Can you please change the year from 1981 to 1982 just to make sure the year is correct?

Please send me an email and let me know if you changed it.

    Thank you very much
