Mercury put a Canadian model name on a clone of Ford’s Grenada to create the 1975 Monarch, a luxury compact sized and priced above Comet. The up level Ghia four-door found 22,723 buyers.

For 1976, still marketed as a luxury compact already chalked full of options, for its second year, was scheduled for more. Here they were. The Grand Monarch Ghia, with its 4-wheel disc brakes and added standard equipment, had been around since June 1975, you can also add a new console, power door locks, speed control, a tilt steering wheel, automatic parking brake release an automatic seat back release to the option list. And for you “big-car” ride fans Lincoln Mercury further softened the suspension.
