Honda’s Accord took a couple steps forward for 1982, in modernity, in size, and in refinement. The line continued with 3-door hatch, and 4-door sedan body styles, though both were much more crisply shaped for ’82. The cleaner and straighter body contours reflected contemporary tastes and also made the Accord easier to push through the wind.
An increase of almost 2-inches in the wheelbase and a bit more than that in overall length, plus taller, more squared off greenhouse corners, meant the interior room was more generous in every important dimension. but bigger, in this case did not mean more consumptive. An increase in compression ratio in the otherwise familiar 1751 cc CVCC engine improved efficiency, to the benefit of both horsepower and fuel economy. Transmission choices continued to be 5-speed manual and 3-speed automatic.
