01983 Mercury Cougar vs Competition Manufacturer Promo
All-new cousin car to the Ford Thunderbird, with formal roof treatment, distinct grille and taillight treatments, the Cougar and Cougar GS had a single engine, the 3.8-liter V-6, with lockup 3-speed automatic standard, a 4-speed overdrive automatic optional. Coefficient of drag with the formal roofline was 0.40 (versus 0.38 for the T-bird). Modified MacPherson strut front suspension with rack-and-pinion power steering, power disc/drum brakes, 4-link coil spring rear suspension standard. All-new interior trim and instrument panel with new bucket-style individual seats, shorter (4 in.) wheelbase, 3 in. shorter overall, and 150-lb lighter at 3100 lbs. New options included polycast wheels, locking fuel filler door, electric rearview mirrors, and an emergency kit.
