With Mazda out of the wagon market in 1984, Subaru could claim the least expensive entry available, the front-drive only addition that started at $6590. Subaru’s highly successful 4-wheel-drive wagon was back again of course, this time with turbocharging as an option.

I remember this generation Subaru 4wd. I was way too young to drive at that time. I was just 10 yrs old by 1983. But I remember thinking “what a great idea! A 4wd car for four adults to drive around in during the winter, when it’s snowing, or for driving on the beach.”
